No one gives a damn abour certs!!
Having worked hard for six months to attach three certs to my resume(OCP(DBA),OCP(DEVELOPER), SCJP). I am realizing no one gives a damn about them. Employers notice only experience not these
electronic logos from the resume. In fact, I am considering removing them as that in fact may play negative, like Long & Foster sending
a listing of home on sale ... Many experienced are very skeptical of them .. they all mean you had nothing better to do so took the test
It was a $1200 wash. Good Bye!!

I don't agree completely. Employers don't care about OCP degrees because they simply don't know what that means. The many experienced are not skeptical, they are afraid they will not pass because they are experienced in their daily tasks, which is nothing compared to what you need to know in order to pass the Oracle tests.

I don't (too) fully agree there though...
[1] You've certainly learned something there, I mean dba/developer/java..whoah..there's a lot you've learnt...
[2] Employer's sometimes ignore because they're looking for something else as well besides the cert...
[3] In almost 80% of my interviews they've emphasized the importance of certifying (I remember once in one interview I pointed out hte futility of the cert, and he said "unfortunately, it's important for us to know that you're willing to learn and certify..", Ooops I thought)
[4] Getting a job is also about someone putting in a good word for you.
[5] You want to also have your resume emphasize on your practical experience alongside the certifications. Like what dba/developer(pl/sql,java)activities you carried out...
It's not a complete waste. No Sir.

Re: No one gives a damn abour certs!!
this is very clear to me that many seniors are VERY afraid to take OCP exam. But they know how to do theirs daily job as a DBA. this is my personal and practical experience.

If you feel you've wasted your money on certification and you didn't get anything out of it, then maybe your trying to specialise in the wrong area.

I am not sure how it goes when certified and looking for a job but
If you are on a job and certified ..most of employers think that the employee is keen to learn some new stuff etc..
Sorry it didn't worked for you.......
Good luck ...

If you proofread your resume as well as your proofread your posts, it is no wonder you have yet to find a job. Certifications or not.

The problem is not the certification, but the expectations. There are too many that rely on OCP hoping they'll get a good job. That's not true, definitely.
On the other side, it's not useless. At least for me, OCP was a great chance I had to learn and review some topics that I just need to recall eventually. If I didn't have the exam objective, I probably wouldn't find time or motivation to study.
Even now, after 6 exams and a nice logo on my resumè, I usually stuck on little details and need to read reference guides or stuff like that. That's absolutely normal, nobody knows everything. At least all the time spent on OCP gave me a better feeling to of where to look for problems and improvements.
This is, BY FAR, the greatest value of OCP. Unfortunately, most people don't know how to study. Passing exams is easy, passing with confidence is another thing.
