Reading a statspack report ...
Forum,
I was able to run a statspack report against one of my Oracle 9.2.0.2 databases and send that up to ORAPERF for evaluation. I really don't know were to start reading the report since there is so much information.
The bottom of the report showed the following:
YAPP Report Generator
for STATSPACK files
(Version 2.0.11 Beta)
Advice...
The advice is given in the order of the most impact of the total reponse time. The percentage gain is taken of the reponse time.
Maximum
Gain
(%) What Detail
0 Check Parallel Cache Management locking strategies Don't use DBA locking for read intensive blocks, use Hash Releasable locking.. Check to see if there are false pings or any hot blocks...
1 Check your network
for congestion This should normally be a non issue.
2 Tune the TX enqueue. No detailed information is available
5 Tune the DFS lock

If you have Tom's Expert One-on-One Oracle book, there is a chapter on Statspack. Also you can go thru the sample chapter of his upcomming book in which he has explained nicely, how to use Statspack.
