PMON posted from location=kslges messages in PMON trace

    Hi Gurus,

I see following messages almost every 5/10 min. in PMON trace file of the PROD database. I recently upgraded the database to 8.1.7.4.11 from 8.1.7.3.0.

Has anybody seen these errors before? Could somebody help me understand the cause and implications of these messages?

Pl. note that there is no "Latch free" or any SGA wait events in v$session_wait.

Do you by any chance have event 10246 set in your init.ora?

    Hi Jurij,

I have foll. event in init.ora.

event = "10246 trace name context forever, level 2"

I searched for doc# 82634.996 with Advance Search also but could not succeed. Pl. copy/paste it here if you have it.

What should be the action item for me?

    Thanks,
    Sam

Yup, that's the one - sorry for the confusion.

Anyhow, Jonathan Lewis explains that "... event 10246 instructs PMON process to write to the trace file when it has been posted to clear up a failed process....". If the even't 10246 is not set than those messages will not appear in the trace file, that's all. So I think there's nothing to wory about.

    Hi Jurij and Dilip,

You guys got it right. I have commented out that particular event and some other events as well, on which I found a note on metalink. Pl. see below.

    #event = "10210 trace name context forever, level 2"
#Used to check data block integrity.
    #event = "10211 trace name context forever, level 2"
#Used to check index block integrity.
    #event = "10235 trace name context forever, level 1"
#Used to check memory manager internal structures
    #event = "10246 trace name context forever, level 2"
#Used to print trace of PMON actions to trace file and IO Slave trace

These events were added in the init.ora by the prev. consultant two years back and he forgot to remove it. But, I started getting those PMON msgs only recently after we upgraded the DB to 8.1.7.4.11.

However, there are following events also in the init.ora, which I am not sure whether to remove or not.

event = "7267 trace name errorstack level 4"
event = "3106 trace name errorstack level 4"
event = "10076 trace name context forever, level 1"

I searched on the metalink but did not get enough info.

Do you guys have any idea about these events?

    Thanks,
    Sam

I am not sure what those events are set for. Never came across them before.

According to Steve Adams, you can switch off all your events except 10076. Also it is suggested to switch off Event 10235, as it is bad for performance.

Check this link for more details.
