How can something that hasn't been released be renamed? Did you have some inside information that it was officially named 10i?

well people were used to call the new release oracle10i , besides when i did a search at www.oracle.com for the word oracle10i i found 3 entries, so i assume that Oracle Corporation was going to call the new release oracle10i , but it seems that they're up with a new name.
Regards.

I get a daily newsletter for Burleson. That one said too that it's been named 10G.
PS: I wet prowling on his website, it seems that he forgot to mention tom's book or his website or Tom's website. I mean given that he did mention Jeff's website...Or did he miss out intentionally...

Well I've just got my new oracla mag at home which says...
[1] It's going to support 8 exabytes(8 million terabytes)....Good for storing extra terrestial trajectories...
[2] Improved HA..I guess the name will change to Data Guardian
[3] Tighter security.. Well you can keep improving there...
[4] Clustering, enhanced RAC, BI,
[5] Commercial grid computing..that's where the G comes from.. the motto is to sell the "buy a couple of inexpensive linux boxes, setup rac, and run your HA database on it" concept. I like this as it's practical and what the client is looking for.

You know, my dogs had that problem with plants in the backyard, but after spraying some of that bitter apple stuff on the plants, the dogs leave them alone now.

It may be true. I mean the hardware evolution is pacing up all the time and software has to sometimes keep up to it. Why would you need all the tablespaces when you have numerous logical/virtual devices who take care of your accessing thus i/o in more ways than ever.
