DBUA - ORA-12560 TNS protocol adapter error

    Hello,

I have 8i and 9i running on my development server in two seperate oracle homes. I am attempting to use the DBUA to upgrade a 8i to a 9i db. When I select the instance and attempt to connect via the DBUA I get the ORA-12560 TNS protocol adapter error.
I have set the oracle home to point to 9i,
I am a little unsure as to how my 9i TNS names/listener should be set up and whether this is the cause of the error?
Should I have an entry for the 8i db that is to be upgraded in the 9i listener/TNS? or does the upgrade do this?
The 8i listener is called LISTENER and I have given the 9i version a different name.

    Any help most welcome......

We are doing this upgrade on a windows 2000 server using terminal services....might this be the issue?

    1. Set the oracle home to 9i and Oracle SID
    2. If you still encounter the error, then check the logs
    ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbma/logs
    3. Also in Win2K, you must be local administrator/domain administrator

    Please let us know.
