Updating records via email

Is it possible at all to update records via email. If yes, what is the theory behind it.

kind of.

what I do is trigger an html email with a form embedded - that form posts out to a cgi script which inserts/updates the database.

it's ugly but it works

There is utl_smtp package for sending mail.
There is also utl_tcp package; on top of it you can write your own utl_pop3 package or something like that for receiving.
And post it here, so we can all use it
