Backups timing
I'm trying to find bottle necks in our backup and restores. We have two databases that we use alot of. One is 2.5 gigs and the othere is about 10 gigs. For these two databases how long would each backup take. Were using a command line backup. I'm not looking for an exact science, just some general numbers.
Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks

depends what you back up to, a disk copy of 2.5 gigs could takes a few seconds if you have a good setup, to tape it will be slower
10 gigs will take about 4 times as long

What were doing is using the exp.exe in Oracle. Doing an export of the two databases. I just want to get a idea of, is how long do most peoples exports take, when there databases are this size?
Thanks for the help

Don't you think the question is very vague ?
What are you trying to find ? If you are running a 16-way server, state-of-the-art disk arrays, these exports will finish in minutes. If not, its anybody's guess.
How long is it taking now ? Is that a problem ? If so, WHY and what is acceptable ?
svk

No, I don't think my question is vague. I'm asking people how long there database exports take when the db is around 2.5gigs in size. Seems like a easy question.

Is your backup and restore strategy based on exp and imp?
-
yes it is. But were looking at coldbackups.

exp/imp is not a good backup strategy

I just tested. On my box, it takes about 93 seconds to export a 10G database.
