Sort_area_size useful if using dedicated server connection?

    Hi,

I have installed Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 as dedicated server. I notice the PGA usage is about 50MB 50 150MB. Now, I'm wondering whether sort_area_size is used or PGA is used instead? Is the sort_area_retained size useful in a dedicated server environment? The current size is 0. Sort_area_size is 512K. Tks.

    I mean to ask:

Does Oracle 9.2.0.1 use sort_area_size or PGA for sorting operations? If PGA is used, then is the sort_area_size useful in performance tuning?

But then does the sort_area_retained size is used in 9iR2? It is useful in Oracle 8i.
