Rollback patches applied to Test instance

I currently have a production system running both 10.7 and 10.7 NCA at a different patch level than our production system. I would like to get the systems to the same patch levels (rollback patches applied on test to production level).

Understanding that I will also refresh our test database with the current production database, can I just copy $APPL_TOP from both 10.7 and 10.7NCA on production to test without causing any problems or is there more involve with it.

If you want to rollback patches applied to your test instance, you have no option but to ...

1. backup up the current database (cold)
2. backup up the current application software (after shutting down all services)
3. verify backup 1 & 2
4. restore application software from backup (to which you want to rollback to)
5. restore database backup (taken during the same moment of time as 4).

If you do not have the backups that you want to rollback to, not much can be done!
