Oracle Support Contract Question
Oracle wants a chunk of change for support and 'software upgrades'.
I just want the support but was told you cant buy just support even though we own the database license. I was told you have to buy software updates and then you can buy support.
software updates = 24,000
support = 10,000
We can sit on Oracle 9.2 for a long time - just need support.
Does this sound correct? We are running out of time. They also said if I dont buy either then want to upgrade to Oracle 10 someday we will have to pay a 're-instatement' fee.

That's the way it works. I was in dispute with Oracle about one of my support contracts (other than the outrageous cost). After about 3 months after the support contract lapsed we finally got everything straighted out and they hit me with the re-instatement fee.
If you ever want to upgrade or apply another patch, keep with the software updates.

In my experience, support generally means "apply the following patches", so it's meaningless without the upgrades anyway
