question about exhcange partitions

version 8.1.7, Sun Solaris.

We have some code has been provided to us which is a little slow and we need to provide feedback.

it uses the exchange partition bit of code and what i wanted to know is wat happens to the indexes on these tables, do they become corrupt or unusable?

If not it is quicker to drop the index and recreate after the exchange has been completed?

Id test it if I could but at the moment I can't
