    I am sorry if you got the feeling I don't read your posts completely.
    But you said
    If you are trying to connect to DB as SYSDBA from the server where DB exist, then Password File is of no use.
    This is simply not true. It depends on what one needs. Not everybody uses OS authentication... always.
    If you would say: "...using password file is not the only option..." I would happily agree with you.
    This is what I was aiming at.

    And for NTS authentication. That's only on Wintel platform.

    But... even though it doesn't look this way, what interest us most is what happened with hamhey's problem?
