RMAN very Slow Restoration!!
Hi all!
Working on Oracle 8i with OS as Unix Solaris 8.0.
Could anyone out there improve on the topic:Improve restoration speed on RMAN Backup.
Scenario:It takes approx 4 hours to backup datas on RMAN with around 200 to 300GB size of Database and around 2 to 3 Hours for restoration from Backup.
In our case we are allocating 4 channels to read from one single tape device in case of RMAN but still the restoration speed goes beyond 12 Hours!!!
Did anyone experience on this topic :How to improve RMAN backup Restoration speed.
Thank You for your time.
Regards,
Amit.

If there is large amount of data need to be read from tape for recovery definitely it will take time.So if ther is good amount of hard disk space is there at your disposal keep one week worth of archive logs on your hard disk which will reduce your recovery time substantially.

If possible also keep the latest backup on disk apart from archive logs.
