SVRMGR shutdown
Hi, all
In my script, I use svrmgr to shut down oracle and then copy the data files to another drive. However the copy fails even the logging message shows oracle shutdown completely and svrmgr completed. Is it possible oracle is still accessing the datafiles when the script starts copying?
Another similar problem is after I copy the files (including datafiles and other files), I use svrmgr to startup oracle. But the startup fails and the message shows one of the datafile is used by another process. Is it possible the datafile is still accessed by the copy process?
The size of my datafiles are around 3G.
Thanks.

Check if the db is shutdown when the copy process begins...and you get the error...

Do you think there is such possibility?

Hi,
No it shouldn't be.When you shutdown the database cleanly,Oracle closes all the logfile,datafile and controlfiles.Also when you shutdown the database through the script,please add the command to stop the Oracle service as well as Oracle listener and thentry it out.It will work out now.

I have heard that listener service sometime still access the files which belong to your database . It might be the cause .

Hey shenru;
I don't want to get off topic here but you may want to consider re-writing your script soon. SVRMGRL is going away in 9i.
