oracle auto startup/shutdown on win2kstartup/shutdown
Hi All
Currently we have configured our 8.1.6 Oracle server on win2k to
startup & shutdown on windows start & shutdown.
My question is what sort of a database shutdown would it be
willl it be when we shutdown the win2k machine.
will it be normal , immediate or abort.
Kindly explain if in case a shutdown of WIn2k machine constitutes
an improper shutdown then is it implicit that oracle will perform
an instance recovery everytime when we start the win2k machine.

Check the registry value ORA_sid_SHUTDOWNTYPE under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE/HOME#. It will tell you what kind of Oracle shutdown your server will perform when you shutdown your windows. The default is "i", meaning immediate.

Also you can increase the ORA_SID_SHUTDOWN_TIMEOUT from 30 to say 120 or so to make sure that it has enough time to shutdown the database.
