    Users Tablespace

    Hi All,

Got a silly question on the USERS TS.

I support an application that has the USERS TS hardcoded into it if you dont have a users TS in your DB it you have to make use of scripts to do most of the work - you generate these scrits in the app, then modify the TS name in there and run it on the db.

OK - I did not write this app - it seems that the developers who did are all MSSQL guys who woke up one morning and said "Hey lets write some oracle stuff" resulting in a DB app that does not make use of Bind variables, has the USERS TS hardcoded in it etc etc.

    It is not funny!

Anyway I have to support this and mostly it works fine.

    The Problem
We have a customer who refuses to make use of the USERS TS - in fact they have removed this from the DB, reason being it is a security risk.
I just think they are being stupid but would appreciate it if one of you more experienced guys could confirm that this is correct or false and why?

    Thanks

    J

    Hello,

I'm not a very experienced user, but I read a lot about Oracle. What I can say is: I think it's another urban legend.

Oracle's security is tight. If you don't trust the standard security system, you can invest in an extra Oracle security product for your db. Try and hack that!

If you have questions, consult metalink. All the answers on security risks are there to be found.

    HTH,

    Erik

Not sure how they can claim the USERS tablespace is any less secure than any other tablespace. It's not created in any special way, if that is there thinking then every tablespace they have is insecure and they better store thier data under the bed

Sounds like you just have a stubborn client

    USERS!!!

    USERS!!!

What the "F" do they know about database administration. SHOOT THEM!!
    Give me a friggin break!
Tell them to document this and share it with all of us. I want to know how a tablespace name is a "security breach" .

USER is a four letter word.

Sorry, I just had help desk flashbacks, my medication is kicking in now, carry on.
