    migrating from 8.1.5 to 9i

I am going to migrate 8.1.5 database to 9 via export/import. As i read the doc it is written that direct upgrade from 8.1.5 is nat available and i must first upgrade to 1.8.7 and then to 9. Is this valid for the export/import utility.
