I have the following problem:
I have a production database(Oracle version 8.1.7) running on Windows2000,on which is running project with web interface(we are using jsp and tomcat). A few weeks ago something unexplainable has happened. A database became unreachable and I could not neither logon on the database server or the database. I checked the alert.log file, oracle.exe process but I could not find anything strange. A few times a day in the last weeks the database became unreachable and only thing I could do is to restart the database. But this doesn't solve my problem.
I will appreciate any suggestions!
the applications with web interface became very slowly. When I am trying to connect to the database through DBA Studio(for example) the connection is timed out. When I am trying to connect to the server on which is running the database with remote administration tool, I must wait a few minutes for response. The whole computer on which the database is running is unreachable. After while, when I connect through remote administration tool, I check the oracle.exe process and CPU but there is no obviosly problem. In alert.log file nothing is writed too.
If you bounce the database and that doesn't fix your problem, it sounds like a networking error. I would get your network guys to sniff the wire while you are having these problems. Also, a more specific Oracle error message/number would help.
in the alert.log file no error is logged. How can I understand what makes the database unreachable. May be JDBC driver is old, but this problem appears one month ago and I was not change anything before that happens.
tell me yours suggestions: which views, etc. will you check if you have such kind of problem. Because it's unexplainable - sometimes it happens, sometimes not. The database activity is the same through all work day!
The applications uses thin JDBC.
