    Question Creating database on Raw Device

    Can I use symbolic links pointing to the raw device to create my database.

    You don't mention your O/S....

    On Compaq Alpha (and I believe Solaris) the answer is Yes. The file_name in dba_data_files looks like a file system name but is really a link to raw.

    you can but not recommendable, if link breaks your database might need recovery

    What possible scenarios would cause a symbolic link to break?
