    multiple tnsnames.ora

A client has SQL Plus, Toad & D2K intalled. I have added new db service in tnsnames.ora & I can connect to db through sql plus but while connecting through Toad I get tnsname protocol error. This might be because since multiple tnsnames.ora file is created, the file used is not the one in which the db service is added. Can I now which tnsnames.ora file is being used & can I restrict to use a specific tnsnames.ora file.

    What do u mean by SQLPLUS,TOAD&D2K ?
I think SQLPLUS is installed as a part of Client installation. If there is another seperate isntallation for D2K naturally it too will have TNSNAMES.ORA file.Copy the contents of TNSNAMES.ORA from Client directory into D2K TNSNAMES.ORA

    Hi

Toad will pick it up from the windows registry..so in the windows registry set the TNS_ADMIN variable to the one you want the client to use. That should solve it

    regards
