    Dbse Move

    Hi There

Hope somebody can advise...Any help/advice is appreciatated..

Our Oracle Dbse is installed on a shared symmetrix drive attached to a sql server O/S.

So all Oracle Db software & datafiles are all on the J:directory.
As part of Symm space move, I need to move my Databse software & datafiles off that drive and onto a new Drive.

Downtime is no problem, so here is the plan..

1.Take a Full DB Backup to a shared drive
2.Backup the control files & parameter file
3.Write script for users, tablespace, roles
3.Close & Shut down the dbse
    4.Uninstall Oracle Software

**Let the Server Admin - re-map the new drive to J:\

5.Install dbse software on new drive
6.Ensure init.ora files & control files are copied back new drive
    7.Start up Dbse
    8.Run Tablespace,user creation scriptsetc
    9.import full backup dump...

Now i know that i could be wrong but any pointers plese let me know..

Also i am worried about the registery of the Server, in Regedit is it possible that there are entries pointing to the old dbse files which could cause the dbse not to open correctly??

    Any advice appreciatated..

If the new drive is going to have the same windoz characteristics i.e drive letter, directory layout, etc. why not simply take a cold backup of the whole drive and restore it once the disks have been switched?

    thanks for the replies..

Of course i know the name of the O/s just rushed a small bit in writing the message....sorry!

So its going to be a new drive, there will be no software on it?

Dont i have to re-install the software & re-create the dbse?

Does this drive contain your OS as well?

    If not...

Stop all the associated Oracle services
Take a full backup of J:\
    Replace the drive J:
    Restore the backup to J:\
    Start the services
