    slow connection to database

The client is microstation (CAD application) on Windows NT workstation connecting to an Oracle 8.0.3 database. All other systems connect OK, but this one system.

    I have checked...

    1. ping - no request timed out
    2. tnsping - no problem
    3. client trace - nothing amiss in these trace files

Any other ideas to solve this issue?

BTW, sqlplus from this problem client connects without any problem to the database.

    Thanks.

propabaly CAD appl itself might have probs on that NT System, which is making conn slower, as u mentioned SQLPlus has no probs in connecting to server.

Does the application use sql*net to connect if so have you tried tracing the connection to see if that gives you any pointers.

The application uses Net8. I have compared the trace files (client trace) generated by the 'problem system' with the 'ok system', but not much of a difference between the two to pin point the problem.

    Any ideas?

Maybe there is a networking issue from that NT mchien to the database server. Try performin tracert from dosprompt i.e.
    C:\>tracert 134.343.33.1

also install this CAD application on a different machine and see what the outcome is. MAybe you need to do some Net8 SDU configuration o server and client. Look for net8 tuning on metalink.

    thanks

Just check the location of file containing connect strings (equavalent to tnsnames.ora for sqlplus connections) and change the location to someother folder and check the connection speed.. It may help you.

Also make sure the ethernet card is set to "FULL DUPLEX".
