It is not possible to take export from higher version to lower version except in 9i.

Thats not what was being asked. This question is "can i use 8i export utility to export from an 8.0 database.".
I don't think it is possible, although you CAN create an Oracle 8.0 export file from an 8i database.
You could just try it though -- Oracle will soon tell you if you can't.

yes it may be possible if you run Orale8i catexp on Oracle8.0 database, that will create the export views required by the oracle8i exp utility to do an export from oracle8.0 database.

In the place/box where you have installed Oracle 8i client, see in $ORACLE_HOME/RDBMS/ADMIN.
The script has instructions about how to run it.

dinkar, why don't you just use the v8 client to export from the v8 database? Where does this fascination with 8i export come from?

If you don't know where it is then this solution is not for you.
My answer was to state one of the possibilities. So if you do not have much experience (and you don't have, your question says all) then don't do it, cause running Oracle8i catexp will overwrite your existing oracle8.0 export views.
First try what is in hand, if it does not work, go to Oracle support and even if then it doesn't work (which is less likely) then only go for other possibilities.
Go with what slimdave has suggested.

This one is not documented in Oracle Documentations but is a solution that works.
Ok here is reference pointer.
