Migrating Oracle 7.1.3 to 8.1.7 on Unix with export/imp

    Hello everyone!

I am planning on migrating a small database from 7.1.3 to 8.1.7.4 by export/import. Now, I first thought you had to make small steps towards 8i; first to 7.3.4 and then 8i. Seems that on metalink there is a document with export/import matrix and it seems I could skip that step in between and go straight forward. Does anyone have any experience with this?
    Thanks!

    Hi

You can directly export from 7.3.4 to oracle817..there are no problems with it.Howver you should testing of your application.

    Thanks for your response!
However, I plan on migrating directly from 7.1.3 to 8.1.7.4.
That should be interesting if that'll work. As far as I can see, there shouldn't be any objections but at the same time, no one can really confirm..
Testing is of course a big part in the process.

    Have you tried metalink?

There is a fairly comprehensive guide to migration paths.

    Good luck.

Yep, I have tried Metalink. I found the compatibility matrix for export/import and it is conclusive: you CAN migrate directly from 7.1.3 to 8.1.7.4
Needless to say this saves whole lot of time! (side-note: I can use this method since it is a fairly small database).

    Thanks for the input!
