export in full database mode vs. user mode

If I use export/import as a way to recover my DB, and my DB has only one user schema, should I export it in full database mode or user mode with the user specified? If I import to a fresh new DB with a dump file that was exported in full database mode, would it mess up the data dictionary?

    thanks,

A user level export will not export user logins. Also will not export any objects (like synonyms) that are owned by public as public is a seperate schema. However a full export will export all the data and allow you to recover the complete database.

However I would caution you that export/import should not be your only backup & recovery tool. You should look into adding some other method of backing up your database (hot/cold) to increase the chances of successful recovery within a timely manner.

It won't overwrite system catalog. Better to take full export. Why not?

    Thanks.

One more question about exp's command line switch:

Since FULL's defaults to N, USERS defaults to undefined, and TABLES defaults to none, what happen if none of the above switches were specified at command line?

Will it export in Full Database, User, or Table mode?

    Thanks again.
