    Wink Switchover and Switchback

I have reviewed the graceful switchover and switchback document.
    I have a question, I have a standby database in Oracle8i Release 8.1.7.3.0.
on AIX Version 4. Is graceful switchover possible?
When I do this 'alter database create controlfile as ' '
I'll be creating the script 'create controlfile script',
How do I do this 'reverse production to standby sites roles'?
Where can i get the script to the switchover and switchback?

    Please response!

AFAIK gracefull switchover is not possible before Oracle9i DataGuard. So for 8.1.7.3 the answer is (at least to my knowlege)): No, switchover/switchback is not possible - the only option is to perform failover.

Its possible with 8i, one have to be little careful in doing that as its not documented procedure. I mean one fail to do so its at their risk...

It is very well documented by Oracle. There is white paper with step by step procedure for 8I. You do have to be carefull as you follow the steps . I have done it on AIX 4.3 and Oracle 8.1.7.3 multiple times and did not have any problem at all.
Dataguard basically the same thing for you except it is all "kernalized" versus manual procedure.

AFAIK, Its not documented by Oracle and there is a white paper on this topic by Private Oracle Expert which Oracle metalink points to.

Its not a complex task, but not advisable for novice DBAs incase of productyion databases. Thats what I mean saying not documented procedure.
