    RAC experience

    Hi,

We are doing Proof Of Concept for RAC on IBM AIX 5.0(64 bit). Oracle version is 9.2.0.2. Due to compatibility/cerification issues with other hardware(e.g. EMC symmetrix, IBM server), we are not using File System(GPFS). Database is using raw devices and we have 2 nodes.

From our experience so far it is very difficult to install, configure and test RAC. We had issues with GUI tools dbca, netca during install. Also, Universal installer asked for more space for ORACLE_HOME half-way during install.

Currently we are doing Transparent Application failover test and Linear scalibility test. TAF has bug and doesnt work with 'shutdown immediate'. Also, TAF does not work consistently. last week we were able to test TAF successfully with 'shutdown abort' and this week it is not working. We did not change any configuration.

For Linear scalibility test, we are not getting consistent results for same test done at different time/day. These are test boxes, so nobody is using them besides RAC testing.

We are responsible for deciding if RAC will be our company standard for Linear Scalable Platform and High Avalibility. Could you please share your experiences with RAC so far with details like OS, FileSystem/raw device, # Of nodes, database size, backup/recovery methods,
    number of users etc.?

    Thank you,
    np70

RAC is a new feature. Before going it for, have you seen a working site in a large scale?

Because, what ever Oracle claims about RAC, only half is true.

    Tamil,

thanks for reply. Purpose of my post was to find about other people's experiences with RAC test as well as large scale implementation.
