    okay..

    1) i did a backup
    2) in a new box, i did a restore
    3) both operations are successful
    4) now, before i do a startup, i moved the files in origlog and mirrlog away.
    5) will startup be okay?

i think startup will be okay if i am not running archivelog. otherwise, i do need the files in these filesystems.

    please confirm

If you've moved your datafiles, just rename them at mount stage to point to the new location.
If its redo logs then you may have to recreate the controlfile.
if its archlogs - no problem, unless you need to do a recovery

i am referring to the redo logs, since i posted on origlog, mirrlog.

a recreation of controlfile will give new values for these redo logs?

how about i restore a single datafile? what happens now is that the controlfile has the current timestamp of all datafiles. however, the restoration of a single datafile will not have the same timestamp. am i right?
