Rollback Segment Datafile
Hi,
I am getting ora-01555 error while doing an import. I cannot use any parameters like commit=Y etc with my Import as this is automated import in SAP.
I want to add more datafiles in ROLLBACK tablespace. But after I finish, I hv to get rid of those also. I already hv rollback datafiles of size 8 GB. (4 files)
What can be done to carry out my activity successfully.
Regards
Vijay

Instead of adding datafiles to RBS tablespace try creting few more rollback segments. I assuming that you are not on 9i and not using AUM.

1. Create a new tablespace.
2. Create 3 to 4 monster rollback segments of size 1GB (or what ever you think is enough to hold your transaction) each.
3. Put other smaller rollback segments offline before the import.
4. Import.

More rollback segments or bigger rollback segments?? I think transactions can not span across rollback segments.

Of course transaction cannot span across rollback segment. Here BIGGER and MORE, both will help but none will guarantee to avoid ORA-01555. AUM does it more efficiently.

Hi
Hi,
I again got the error and after seeing it closely it says max extents reached. I m now going to resize my extents from ini 10M, next 10M to 20M.

Increase the max extents.

Can you shrink after your import is done successfully?? Why can't we use optimal values here for such rollback segments?
Many gurus .. to correct me if i'm wrong
Thanks....

Hi,
Thatz what i wanna know. but from replies it looks we can't shring. optimal is ok, segment shrinks back to that level. but th datafile cannot be shrinked as the HWM is on the higher side.
This time i didn't faced maxextents eror, but space has finished in the files.
i m gonna add more space to rollback segs.
Regards
Vijay
