Importing into Unix from NT environment

Okay we are migrating an Oracle database from an NT platform to a Sun Solaris platform. I want to be able to recreate the tablespaces the way they are, other than the mount points being different. Is there anything special in the import process that I need to do to ensure that the tablespaces are created properly on the Unix system. thanks

You will have to create the tablespaces yourself before the import.

oh okay, and then name them what they are on the NT system. What about the different mount point aka... D:\oradata to /dis3/oradata/???

The tablespace name in the destination db on Solaris should be the same as that of the source on NT. The name/format of the datafile does not matter. That is the whole purpose of export/import (cross platform compatability)!

    1. Create the tablespaces on Solaris with the same tablespace names as they were on Windows.

However, you have a chance to size them properly and/or place them on different mount points for performance. Take advantage of the migration and organize your physical structures accordingly for maximum performance in your new environment.
