    Backup Software ?

    Hi guys,

need to check with you something, which backup software does most of the companies use for their Oracle DB?

Archserve or Vertias or some other brands?

My current Oracle DB is using Archserve.

While, in singapore, i think Vertias will be a bit more popular compare to Archserve.

    Any feedbacks are most welcome.

    Regards
    Daniel

If you don't want to spend any more money, then go for RMAN. Now in 9i this product has become more reliable and robust. We use it for our production database backups.

I don't care what my Sysadmins use to backup the filesystems. I use RMAN and backup to disk. They come along later and copy my rman files to tape.

agreed, you can get fancy and backup directly to tape but the long and short of it is that a restore from a disk is much faster than a tape, consider backing up to disk and then have some os utility archive the backup to tape after a couple of days

    Guys thanks for the feedback.

While , i have heard of ECM Timefinder, but never hear or see it's being use in my country.

So,most of the Oracle Production DB, you guys are using the Rman to backup the existing database files?

Definately, backing up the files to a disk is much more faster to a tape drive. But, we have to look into the disk storage space.

Once again thanks and have a good days ahead.

    Cheers!!

    Hi

most of the customers i have been to were small shops where they cannot afford to have separate Backup software..however the current folks use Veritas Netbackup it seems to be popular..also integrates with RMAN..
