    Oracle Licenses problem ..

    Hello all..

We have purchased Oracle 9i EE licenses based on Processor License. What exactly does that mean ?...does it mean that we have to install this on only one machine ?. I installed it on Sun 5.8.

Now we need to install the same Version of Oracle on Win2000. By installing on 2000, will it be considered as 2nd processor, and will i be breaking the licensing agreement ?.

    Thanks
    Ron

AFAIK the processor based license means that the costing is done based upon the type and number of processors.

And UNIX based processor license are costlier than intel based processor. And if you have bought a lisence for unix based proccessor, then you cannot use it for an intel based processor.

for more details refer to metalink.

The only exception is if your Win2K is a backup/standby for the Unix machine.

No, not any more. The price is the same, and it's been this way for quite a long time now....

If your Win2000 server was being used purely for development purposes, you would be able to operate under a free licensing arrangement (see technet.oracle.com for details)
