Intelligent Agent version 92 doesn't start

    Here's the deal, People.

    OS: 2000 server sp3(AD configured)
    Homes: 3 (817, 920 & Dev suite resp).

    Databases : 817 and 920

I cannot start the darn 92 agent. 817 start's fine and node discovery etc works ok but the issue is in the OMS you can't(if you want to use the perf manager, the host details.. you know cpu etc..)

    I've tried everything(almost). snmp & snmptrap.

    When I do netstart..
    Code:
    C:\WINNT\system32>net start OracleOraHome92Agent
    The OracleOraHome92Agent service is starting.....
The OracleOraHome92Agent service could not be started.

The service did not report an error.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534.

    C:\WINNT\system32>net helpmsg 3534

The service did not report an error.

    EXPLANATION

The service did not report an error.

    ACTION

Try the task later. If the problem persists, contact your network
    administrator.

With the 817 agent i get a mrg saying clearly that the datagatherrer(which is also 817 version) is not enough for the capacity planning.
and health preview chart doesn't display the host details as it requires a new 9.0.1 or above version.
But I have the 92 version agent, so why doesn't it start?

    Any clues/advices are welcome/appreciated.

    Hi Tarry,

Is there any error generated in the $ORACLE_HOME/network/log/nmiconf.log file?

    this is the error, jim.

    Code:
    DBSNMP for 32-bit Windows: release 9.2.0.0.0 - Production on 28-FEB-03 15:25:48
    Discovering services on cc345772-a configured on host addresses {cc345772-a.Tarry.local ....}
Warning : Error while sourcing third party discovery file emddiscover.tcl : unable to get value "em_loc" from key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle": The system cannot find the file specified.
    the agentsrvc log says...
    Code:
    -------------- [OracleOraHome92Agent] ------------
    Sending initial service status..
    Commandline is "E:\oracle\ora92\bin\dbsnmpwd.bat" -agent_name OracleOraHome92Agent
    2. WAIT_OBJECT_0: Agent exited with retCode 0.
    Agent failed to startup.
    Check E:\oracle\ora92\network\log\OracleOraHome92Agent.nohup for details
and then looking at the nohup ..
    Code:
     --------------------------- 02/28/2003 3:25p -------------------------
     -----------------------------------------------------------------
    Service name is OracleOraHome92Agent
    Failed while initializing Comm service
    Error initializing subsystems
Agent exited on 02/28/2003 3:26p with return value 55
Could not start agent. Initialization failure
Agent startup failed. Check E:\oracle\ora92\network\log\OracleOraHome92Agent.nohup for details
now here there is something with the return value 55 in the dbsnmppwd.bat which makes it exit(well i'd assume that the dbsnmp file's job is to keep the service up and running.

    Anyways here's what you asked...........

    Tarry,

Are you tring to start the 92 agent as well as the 817 one on the same host? One one Agent can be run per host

    No Jim,
I'm trying only with one agent at a time.

I've read the darn agents manual ,traced the agentctl, and it all (apparently) comes down to the fact that the hunt (thruthe emddiscover.tcl) for an em_loc in the hkey_/software/oracle) exits the agentctl.

    Keep 'em coming.................

    Hi Tarry,

Sorry if I'me stating the obvious but have you checked to make sure there are no other processes on ports 1748 and/or 1754

Also has the host name or IP address been changed?

    Jim,
I've done the netstat -a and the 2 specified ports are apparently free..
and no ,the host name and ip address haven't changed.

    Hi,

im not sure if you have looked at this option ??

    from the metalink
The 9.2 Agent is trying to call a 9.0.2 discovery script (and it shouldn't because the functionality from 9.0.2 is not in 9.2). So to get rid of this error in your log file, go to the ORACLE_HOME/network/config/nmiconf.lst file and comment out or remove the line that calls the emddiscovery.tcl script. Then restart the agent.
May be you can try this one... In your case 9.0.2 is 8i
