NAS or Attached storage
Ive been told in the past that NAS file servers have a better I/O throughput than attached storage such as a SUN A1000. Im evaluating the storage requirements for UNIX and NT database Servers. I like the idea of being abloe to centralise storage between OS but I have doubts believing that NAS performs well over a network that uses CAT5 cabling.
Any comments on the issue much appreciated

We have a Network Applicance Filer (NAS) storage array and we get equivilant performance than when the data was store on attached devices.
However our network perforamnce is generally very good, make sure you have resolved any potential bottlenecks there before you consider centrisled storage.
