ms word issues after downgrade to 8i from 9i

we downgraded the 9i to 8i after we had some issues

my issue is:

we have a*.rtf document which have a table and we store in the database.

we are editing and opening in ms-word 97.Also we are storing this in db.

when i open the document in msword 2000 it's displaying as expected but when we open the same in msword 97 it is displaying in a vertical format.if it's Microsoft issue is there any patch

I would like to know is this any thing related downgrade or some issues in ms-word 97.
