    Standby

Our site runs Oracle 8.1.7.0.0. for DR we have implemented standby server with the production box forced to make 5 mins log file switches to ensure the maximum data loss would be 5 mins in the event of a failure, possibly the log being transferred. This is now unacceptable and 5 mins loss is no good, They do not want to buy Parrallel Server which is clearly what is required. What are my other options for effectively hot standby can I use Oracle Dataguard?

    Thanks in advance

Upgrade to 9i where DataGuard can be configured in such a way that it guaranties no data loss - not even a single transaction.

Btw, as a side note to your comment about OPS: I can't see how OPS/RAC could possibly be used for disaster recovery purposes.
