Migration from Novell to WinNT
I am looking to migrate an Oracle 7.2 db server running under novell to Oracle 9i running under WindowNT.
This will be the first time I have migrated a database, could anyone give me a brief overview of what needs to be done, and highlight any potential problems?
Cheers.

Hi
1)take a cold backup of your database on novell..
2)take a complete export..exp userid=system/manager full=y file=expdat.dmp log=full.log compress=N using the export utility shipped with 7.2
3)Now move this file in binary mode to Windows Nt server..and now use the import utility of 9.2
imp userid=system/manager full=y file=expdat.dmp log=imp-full.log
thats it..and start testing..
if the migration fails..then you can fall back on the cold backup..

1)take a cold backup of your database on novell..
----Not necessary...
3)Now move this file in binary mode to Windows Nt server..
-- Well when you do copy (binary or ascii), it is preserved the way it is.
and now use the import utility of 9.2
imp userid=system/manager full=y file=expdat.dmp log=imp-full.log
-- Before this
1. Create an empty database.
2. Create the Tablespaces before hand.
3. Then try import.
and yes use
imp userid=system/manager full=y file=expdat.dmp log=imp-full.log ignore=y commit=y
Hrishy forgot the ignore clause...
