Prob. in connecting as sqlplus "/as sysdba" in 9.2

    Hi,

I am having a problem in oracle9.2 installed on Linux 7.2, starting up the database.
when I give [ sqlplus "/as sysdba ] at $ prompt its taking a lot of time and my server is becomming slower, and then when I use top command I surprised to see that the Server process which is starting up the database is using nearly 1GB in SIZE & RSS columns.......
    why its like that??????

    Please help me soon......

    Regards,
    Singh.
