    capacity planning issue!

    Hi all!

I have 2 VLDB databases on 1 server and have been asked to move one of the databases to another server mapping out a 2 year use plan. The DB I'm moving is mainly used for reporting with an update of approximately 1 million rows.

    Any ideas.....

What I am asking for are:

    1. What is the best way to move a VLDB from one server to another?i.e cloning, Import/Export,sqlloader etc..
    2. What is the best method to provide adequate disk storage for the the VLDB I'm moving on the new server?
    3. What issues should I be concerned about?

I will appreciate comments from all

    Thank you

fastest would be to do a cold backup of the db files and restore it on the new server.

    1. Definitely not export/import. I would go with a cold backup.
    2. See how big your database is now, figure out how much disk space you use in 1 month, multiply by 24 and double that.
    3. Scalability, backup, and management of multiple instances.
