    multiple instances for a database

    Hello,

I am new to Oracle. I have created a database named sales. The oracle SID for this database is also sales. I want to know if I have to run multiple instances how do I do that. I mean do I have to create another database for each instance using dbassist or is there a way I can use the same database I created for other instances ie the same datafiles, redologs and all .. Please bear in mind that I am new to Oracle . Also I would appreciate if someone sends me a document about how to configure multiple instances.

    Thanks
    -K

Yes, you will have to create new database for each instance.

If you want to access one database from more than one instances you can make use of OPS,Oracle Parallel Server (Before 9i) or RAC Real Application cluster (9i)
