how to delete archive log files
Hi,
I have lot of archive log files in the production database.I am not running using RMAN.Can i delete all the archive logs except for the last week.Will this deletion will have any effect if there is recovery.can anyone adivce me on this.

What backup strategy do you have? If you are taking regular hotbackups then backup the archived logs as well immediately after hot backup and delete them.

Hi ,
we are taking hot backup(control file,datafiles) to tape drive. We are not backing up the archive log files.

Backing up archive log files must be a part of any hotbackup. You can look for some scripts on this site to include archive log backup in your hotbackup script.
Think of moving to RMAN if your DB version is > 8.X

I have three oracle 8.1.5.0.0 databse and two 9i databases. Can you tell me how to enable the RMAN in the environment.
