    Question PGA allocation in NT

    Hi:

    O.S. => Windows NT
    Oracle => 8.1.7

    In dedicated connection, PGA allocated outside the SGA.
    PGA is dynamic memory allocation. I would like to know that does take the memory from O.S. or allocated appication memory.

    Thanks.

    I am not sure that how memory allocation works in NT.
    We have 8GB memory on server. NT can recognize upto 4GB. That means we are not using rest of 4GB. In oracle documentation, they had suggested to use PSE36 driver if you want to use more then 4GB. But, PSE36 driver is not supported any more.

    In current configuration,
    2GB memory allocated for application.
    We have two databases running on this server with
    SGA size 1) 1.2GB
    2) 800MB

    Problem:
    We are using dedicted configuration.
    When the number of connection reaches around 120 (this number varies depend upon processes) then it does not allow the new connection.
    When we kill the top PGA user, then other connections are allowed and database function normal.

    Now, NT admin was telling me that with NT option he has allocated 3GB memory for application wich is 1GB more then current seting

    Will it help to resolve the PGA problem?
    What does it mean by allocated memory for application?

    Thanks.
