Arrow ODBC connection from Win98 to Oracle Server ?

I need to connect to an Oracle database server from a windows 98 client.

    1. Can I do this with the native drivers provided by windows 98 without installing any client Oracle software ? (using Microsoft OBBC)

    2. What are the 3rd party (also share ware/free ware) drivers, if any, to connect from windows 98 client to Oracle database software ?

    Thanks.

U need to connect to Oracle Server Through front end tools to get data right????
Then U can do it with Microsoft ODBC for Oracle.

You need Net8 (formerly SQL*Net) and ODBC driver. The driver can be from Microsoft, Oracle or any other vendor.

So, I need Oracle Net8 + Microsoft ODBC driver

    ( or )

any vendor Net8 + any vendor ODBC driver

Can you please quote some vendors other than Microsoft & Oracle. (Coz., we foresee some licensing issues)

    Thanks.

P.S.: I suppose Net8 is proprietary to Oracle. Right?

    Net8 is Oracle product.

ODBC connection from Win98 to Oracle Server ?

We have in the discussion for the WINDOWS 98 CONNECTION for oracle.

But the patches for the connection on windows 95 is the one established one have not problems. Whereas, windows 98 have several bugs on connecting to the databases and has failed to activate.

It is better either you should switch to windows 95 or NT for better performance in connectivity.

    Ok.

How about the oracle 8i on XP?

    Any drawbacks?

The issue was sorted out by installing

    1. DCOM95 for windows 95,
    2. MDAC 2.5 SP1 &
    3. Oracle basic networking components.

    Thanks.
