    Hostname Change

    Hi,

We are planning to migrate our production server from Win NT / 8i to Win2k / 9i.

Since the business cannot be down for a week, we are planning to do it on a different server and set up the entire environment. Finally change the IP address of the system and the Host Name of the system as given for the production server.

Will there by any impact on Oracle due to the change in Host Name.

    Your input is highly appreciated.

There wont be any impact. Just make the changes in listener.ora and tnsnames.ora.

    Hi

if you are going to do the setup on a new machine with new OS then then best way is...

    --On the old machine

Take export of the entire database with consistent=y (in case user are working and you want a consistant data)

    --On new machine

    1. Install Oracle9i on the new machine.
    2. Create a blank datadabse.
    3. create the tablespaces that were present in the old database with size about 25-50% bigger.
    4. import the full database.

    Thats all
No headaches of finding what to change and what not to change :-)

    Cheers
