    Avg_row_length

    Hi,

I still found a chained row after exporting and importing a table which has just 3 rows.

    Details:
    Oracle Block Size ==> 8K
    PCT_FREE: 15
    PCT_USED: 40
    BLOCKS: 5
    EMPTY_BLOCKS: 4
    AVG_SPACE: 1577
    CHAIN_CNT: 1
    AVG_ROW_LEN: 10857
    AVG_SPACE_FREELIST_BLOCKS: 7371

Basically this table has a LONG RAW column.

According the above information, all the 3 rows are occupied in just 1 block out of 5 block. A total of 4 free blocks are available. This tells me that all the 3 records are fitted in a single block which is 8K.

Is it possible to avoid chaining in this scenario?

    Thanks,
    Allen

    Hi pando,

    Thanks for the info.

After reading all the notes and the suggestions, I have decided to leave the table as it is.

    Thank you,
    Allen

    (I know I'll feel stupid when I see the reply but . . . )

3 rows of average length 10857 is about 32K - how does that fit in 8K?
Was an analyze run when there were 3 rows in the table?

Allen - my question was one of timing.
I ask again: "Was an analyze run when there were 3 rows in the table?"

BLOCKS means the number of used blocks in the table not blocks in total.
