    OCP 8i Vs 9i

    Hi Guys
I am planning to take OCP examination. Please help me out whether it will be better to go for 8i certification + upgrade of 9i, or 9i directly. I would like to know the advantages of both the certifications.

IMHO I think you would be better to go for the 8i and then upgrade to 9i, You'll find that there is a greater proportion of 8i systems in the field and it's likely to remain that way for a while.

Perhaps Oracle will allow a direct 8i to 10i upgrade.

I'd also recommend the 8i and them upgrade to 9i.

Currently, i am doing my 8i instead of 9i. Most of the company are still using version 8 or 8i. Only new setup company will go for 9i instead.

My company is using 8i and MS SQL Server 2000. But, we have no plan to go for 9i. Wait and see if there's any further changes. As long the database is working fine, i dun see any reason, we need to move up to the next version. Unless there's a requirement and needs.

I will opt for 8i,but it's depend on individual mindsets.

While many of the things in 8i will slowly be phased out in 9i and eventually 10i.
Going for 8i will help you get into a job(with some prior 8i experience) where migration into 9i and so on will help you greatly understand 9i. I think personally a lot of db's will move on to 9i by the end of 2003. So i think by getting your 8i by mid 2003 will be ok choice but any later will not really be that helpful as a lot of 9i jobs popping out will be rather discouraging.

So make your choice based on the how the industry is moving in your region. When I started with my 8i certification in april i thought i was a little late, and i wasn't wrong there(again rgion based opinion).
