Question Synchronous or Asynchronous I/O for NFS mounted filesystems

    Solaris 2.8

I know regular filesystems use Async I/O on Solaris 2.8. Does anybody know if NFS uses Sync I/O or Async I/O ?

NFS (except Netapp) filesystem cannot be used for database datafiles/redo logs, as they do not garantee the write to the datafiles.
So, no matter they support aio or not, it won't be used for datafiles/online redo.
    right?

Huh? Who said anything about putting data files or redo log files on NFS mounted filesystems? Maybe I'll start answering questions like that...

    Since this is a DBA forum, I think chao_ping made a reasonable assumption . . .

OK Jeff, let us into the secret, what will you use the NFS for?

After Solaris 2.6 you can have Async I/O, yes. But for Solaris 2.6 there is a patch for that in order to be able to use it.
