Oracle Database Cache Configuration Error while installing Oracle9iAS
Dear Sir/Ma'am,
While installing Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.1.0 i encountered the error connecting to the cache failed. Below is the log of the error messages:
CACHE CONFIGURATION ASSISTANT PROGRESS
CONFIGURING CACHE --> Processing Failed
Configuring the Cache
Creating the Cache
Starting up the Cache
Setting up the Cache Listener
Connecting to the Cache
Connecting to the Cache Failed
Reason: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101:shared memory realm does not exist
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Processing failed.
My OS in Sun Solaris 8.
I retried it in the Oracle Database Cache Configuration Assistant screen for about 3 times now and still im getting the same error.
Any help on how to solve this error will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Regards,
Edward

Obviously you are trying to create the database cache repository in a db that doesn't exist.

I have an existing origin database. You cant proceed with the database cache configuration if the origin database is not existing right? From the installation screens, i think the configuration assistant is creating a database which it cannot connect to? Ive seen in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory datafiles and an init.ora which i think the configuration assistant created.. How come it cannot connect to the database that it creates? Thanks..

dont you supply connection information to your GUI? Are they correct?
have you set environment variables?
can you connect to your database?
it's not a db cache error

I supplied information regarding the origin database (username, password and service name). They are correct.
Ive set the environment variables. Oracle home and oracle sid. Do i have to set the oracle sid variable?
i can connect using sqlplus.
thanks in advance pando.

set ORACLE_SID as well, that error looks more like caused by a local connection without ORACLE_SID set than a remote connection using service name

I've already set the ORACLE_SID and the ORACLE_HOME in the profile of the user im using to install Oracle9iAS. Ive set the ORACLE_SID to the value of my origin database.
What else do i need to do? In the error log ive posted yesterday, the error is in the part where the configuration assistant connects to the cache. Is this a tnsname issue? What are the steps i need to do?
Thanks.
