Migration Doubt
Hi
We need to upgrade Oracle 7.3.3 from a AIX(4.2.1) machine to Oracle 8i(8.1.7) on a different AIX(4.3.3) machine. We have installed 8i on the AIX(4.3.3) machine.
I have cold backup of Oracle 7.3.3. Can I rcp these files to AIX(4.3.3) machine, and then recreate the control files, to change the file locations, and then migration using odma utility from 8.1.7?
Please advice.
Thanks in Advance

You can user either migration assistant
or migration utility ( go through the oracle documentation)
migration assistant is easy to handle

Meaning that, I can use my cold backup to restore on another machine and do migration to 8i using odma.
Any suggestions from guru's.
Thanks In Advance.

I never used migration assistant so I cant help, I only know running upgrade scripts is a piece of cake

Read the release notes for the version you are upgrading to -- they may tell you that you need to upgrade to an intermediate version first.

Is it possible to run a v7 database on 8.1.7 by merely recreating the control files?
I've never tried.
