    SERVICE_NAME in TNSNAMES.ORA

    Hi,

    What determines whether I should use DBNAME alone or DBNAME followed by domain name for SERVICE_NAME field in TNSNAMES.ORA? I have several DBs here on various systems but can't quite figure out why a client can connect to SERVICE_NAME containing DBNAME followed by domain name for some DBs while for the others I HAVE TO put in only DBNAME. Does it have anything to do with GLOBAL_NAME setting in INIT.ORA file?

    Check parameter default_domain in sqlnet.ora
